Duke Kahanamoku
Duke Kahanamoku
To celebrate the life and times of Duke Kahanamoku. We must fulfill our mandate to skillfully tell the tale of this renaissance man of the sea.
We will seek the good counsel of those who have passionately studied the life of this extraordinary man. People like Sandra Hall, Dana Brown, Stacey Peralta, Desoto Brown and many more who will allow for the juxtaposition of current perceptions of The Duke while exploring the world into which Duke emerged. Hence, a celebration and respect of Hawaiian history through both good and troubled times will result from these efforts.
We wish to communicate and elevate awareness to Duke's image as a man who lived his life in balance with the sea and the natural world. We will garner a strong ecological sensibility as we explore elements of Hawaiian spirituality to better understand the Hawaiian's sacred relationship with the world. We have never been in greater need of a voice to speak for the natural realm. Remembering Duke has much to tell us on how we must harmonize with the environment and protect and defend it with all our hearts.
In a world torn apart by conflict and despair, we have a great and pressing need to seek out those individuals who bring a message of hope and vision. Duke Kahanamoku lived a passionate life devoted to the concept of Aloha which embodies kindness, unity, harmony and humility. We wish to help bring to light and celebrate the life of this unique and vital individual who has so much to teach us, so much still to give. The time has come.
